Shooting Coins using Rim Lighting / Coin

Shooting collectible coins can present a special challenge.

This lesson takes a look at utilizing Rim Lighting to solve the lighting issues involved in photographing coins.

Simply put, rim lighting is just as it sounds, placing the lights so they rake across the subject or light the rim, or edge.

To get a great shot of a coin, lighting the subtle relief is key. This is where rim lighting shines.
