If contrast is what you're looking for in your portraits, the umbrella is just the ticket. Because the umbrella is a bounced light the results reveal more punch in contrast than the soft wrapping results we get from a softbox.
Another advantage to the umbrella is cost. For those of you on a tight budget, the versatility and price of an umbrella is very appealing. The umbrellas portability and ease of setup and tear down also may appeal to your shooting style as well. When you consider all these factors, an umbrella is a great tool to add to your photographic arsenal.

In this lesson, we look at two of the Umbrellas offered by Photoflex, the ADW and the ADH adjustable Umbrellas. These are adjustable, 45-inch umbrellas, the ADW is white and the ADH is silver. Through an innovative design, the shape of these lighting tools can be adjusted from the traditional shape of an umbrella to a square by simply changing the position of the umbrella's ribs. This offers much greater versatility to this product over the traditional style of a photographic umbrella.
