In portrait lighting, it's hard to go wrong with a soft box like the Photoflex OctoDome3. With adjustable interior walls, a circular parabolic shape, and unsurpassed Photoflex design and construction, it's a perfect choice for natural-looking light. This is the main reason Photoflex has included it in over half of their new StarFlash strobe kits.

The debate still continues with photographers over which one is better: the umbrella or the soft box, especially with respect to location use. While it’s true that umbrellas offer an effective, inexpensive lighting solution and are indeed handy on location (perhaps even in a downpour), you can't beat the quality of light delivered from a Photoflex OctoDome3 soft box. The double diffusion allows the light to be placed closer to the subject without glaring highlights and impenetrable shadows and the round shape is reflected in catch-lights in the eyes and reflections, providing a more natural effect.
This lesson covers how to use one Photoflex StarFlash strobe with an OctoDome3, then two, and finally adding umbrellas and StarFlashes for the background lighting. Lets get started!
