Knocking-Out and Adding Backgrounds Quickly and Easily / Young woman portrait

One of the big advantages of digital photography over traditional film-based photography is the ability to make modifications to a shot without spending a great deal of time and money.

We have found that there is a growing interest in creating dropouts, sometimes called knockouts, of an image. A dropout is the separation of the foreground of an image from the background. The isolated foreground object can then be placed in front of a background of the photographer's choice.

For those who are interested in creating dropouts, this lesson will cover some simple lighting practices to give the best image for making clean dropouts easily.
